Over recent decades, Spain has undergone a profound transformation in the religious and spiritual sphere. The decline of traditional religious practice, the growth of non-religion and the expansion of new forms of spirituality, together with the arrival of millions of migrants, have shaped a landscape of increasing religious diversity.
This research project, funded by the Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities, analyses these dynamics from a social sciences perspective, understanding them as part of a broader process of social change affecting values, identities and institutions. Coordinated by the University of Salamanca and the UNED, it brings together the study of non-religion and the religiosity of immigrants in order to provide a comprehensive understanding of religious transformations in contemporary Spain.
Researchers from the University of Salamanca and the UNED work collaboratively on this research project, contributing expertise in the social sciences, non-religion and religious diversity in Spain.
We organise public engagement activities and spaces for academic dialogue to examine religion, religious diversity and social change in contemporary Spain. Seminars, conferences and specialised events provide opportunities to share the project’s findings and promote scientific communication with society.
